Many of you might be more familiar with the term ‘Glamour’ or ‘Makeover’ but I prefer to call it ‘Contemporary Portraiture’.
Remember the big fluffy hair, distracting backdrops and huge shoulder pads back in the 80s and early 90s? I’m happy to tell you that the glamour photography is no longer the same now.
From these images, you can see that the definition of glamour has changed. In the 80s and 90s, a lot of emphasis was placed on the outfits and hair styling. By doing so, I felt it kind of took away the purpose of creating a portrait, or perhaps the definition of a person’s individuality.
On a happier note (in my opinion), portraits these days are less about the outfits, and more about finding the most flattering angle and using beautiful lights to capture it. Less could sometimes be more. In my studio, I always aim to create the magazine-styled images that every woman dreamed of.
Over the last two years as a portrait photographer, I have photographed over 200 women. Meeting these women and knowing them has changed my world. To me, makeover photography today is not longer just about creating beautiful portraits for women, but also to constantly remind them that they are beautiful at any age or weight.
